Advance #3022277 - Old Mutare Hospital Family and Child Health Unit
Providing 70 hospital beds to a very active maternity unit where there is about 60 babies.
Old Mutare Hospital has 70 beds and is serving a population of 15,000 people. The unit has an active maternity unit where 60 babies are delivered per month. Up to 70 patients are seen at the outpatient unit daily. The unit was built in 1903. The infrastructure is now very old. There is need for bigger paediatric wards, new surgical wards, a new family and child health unit. A new outpatient unit that can house a better pharmacy, examination rooms, procedure room, offices, X-ray, ultrasound rooms and rehabilitation unit. A Family and Child Unit that is friendly to husbands. This unit would be ideal for the support of the young girls who are becoming pregnant before age 18. We have a six bed children ward but we admit more that ten children at any given time. The staff accommodation is poor and inadequate. The current facility is old and can no longer cope with the increased patient load that is present for daily treatments. Our vision is to upgrade Old Mutare Hospital to be a self containing unit. Where evidence based medical care is offered to the patients by well motivated staff in a Christian environment. We need a new outpatient unit, new children’s wards, better x-ray and ultrasound facilities. Our laboratory backup also needs to be upgraded. The pharmacy unit we have has been condemned by the government and the church has been advised to improve on this.
The goal is to improve the outpatient, inpatient and maternal and child health services at Old Mutare Hospital.
1. More clients will be served at the facility as a result of the project as services will be accessible and affordable. 2. We will be able to attract better qualified staff thus improving on the quality of care afforded to our patient.
